The weather from hurricane Earl cut a 2 day jigging trip with Victor, Jimmy, Andrew and Lourdes from Bookfihsingtrips.com to a one day marathon. Headed off shore in the dark with light east winds and mixed swells. Once we arrived it didn't take long to start hammering the AJs and Almacos. We had great action all day every drift. The ocean actually went completely flat with very little current. The was Victor's 1st trip to NC and AJ fishing and he did a great job but very tired. Lourdes caught the largest AJ of the day 50 inches and a fat 70 lbs. Also caught a 12 foot Dusky on the jig. Andew has the hot hand with multiple fish every drift and the big fish that pulled off close to the boat. Ended the day looking for some grouper for the cooler and had 3 nice lb 20 Reds and 2 Scamps. Teh fall fishing is just getting started just hope the weatherman gives us a break.

Ran a combo trip with fellow Captain Rick Croson with local anglers. The ocean was flat with some swells from the storm off shore. Started in 140 feet and had action quickly. The AJs were hungry the 1st couple drifts and then shutdown. Moved out to 200 feet and had some good action with a few nice fish. We decided to troll to the deep drop and caught a couple nice Blackfins. The guys landed some large Almacos and then we found the big boys. We had a 55 inch and a 58 inch fish. After a few drifts with the large AJs we decided to take a break and troll for a while. We had a nice Wahoo sky the short lure but missed the hook. The next pass she wasn’t so lucky and boated a 40 lb Wahoo. Moved inshore looking for some grouper but no takers with the full moon.

Got invited to go fishing with Capt.Chris Buren and his 2 buddies out in Orient on Capt.Bob Rochetta’s boat of http://www.RainbowCharters.Net

Capt.Chris, Austin, Adam and myself started off the trip catching our live baits which was porgies. This was alot of fun as the porgies are easy to catch and there’s alot of them. After we filled the well we were off to the feeding grounds for some Trophy Striped Bass. Austin’s live porgy was inhaled by a 45″ Striper estimated to be 35 lbs, this fish was rather skinny and Capt. Bob said it should have been closer to 45 lbs but because it was a skinny 45″ Bass we estimated 35-38 lbs we didn’t officially weigh it but it was Austin’s Personal Best and he was all smiles for the rest of the trip. After that the fishing was non existent except for 1 Big Blue that Austin caught but the rest of the night was unsuccessful. The Bass were there the problem was the current was so fast we were pushing 5 knots and could not get our baits or Bucktails in the strike zone. This was a good lesson never go fishing on the day of the New Moon or Full moon. The current usually moves to fast to make a proper presentation and you end up with no fish… However the best times are usually 3 days before or 3 days after, that always seems to be the ideal time to be fishing. The slow fishing is not typical of Orient or Capt.Bob Rochetta I’ve been out with him many times and have landed Striper’s over 30,40 and 50 lbs over the past few years. I didn’t even check the Moon Phase, I just jumped at the chance to fish. Thanks Capt.Chris for a good time even though it was slow, hey you can’t win them all. Congratulations Austin on your Personal Best
