Fishing Overview:  HADDOCK FISHING

Haddock, a member of the cod family, can be distinguished from other cod relatives by their gray/silver body, black lateral line, and a large spot over either pectoral fin.  The largest recorded haddock was 44" and weighed 37 pounds.  However, the average haddock is about only 3 to 5 pounds. Haddock are known for their exquisite taste. Unlike other bottom fish species, they fight ALL the way to the boat. With no creel llimit, expect a bountiful harvest when going haddock fishing!

Generally, expect to use the following techniques on these trips: Jigging; Bottom Fishing rigs (Bait: clam) with up to 2 hooks; 12-18 oz sinkers (depending on depth and/or tide). Typical tackle used: 7' to 8' (20-40lb) class rods, conventional reels with 30-60lb braided or 20-30lb monofilament line.
