The Boat

As described on their website: "This Skeeter drafts very little water, making it perfect for the Connecticut river and it’s shallow coves. It is powered by a Yamaha 250 four stroke. It has trim tabs and a 12? jack plate to keep us running in even the skinniest of water. With a fisherman friendly lay out, she is ideal for the rocky coastline and the rips of Long Island Sound. 80 gallons of fuel gives us a range of over 300 miles. At a top speed of over 50 MPH, there is nowhere for fish to hide. It is equipped with VHF, fish finder, side imaging sonar and GPS as well as a 101 Lb thrust trolling motor."

The Crew:
Capt. Blaine Anderson.

Captain's Bio: (From their website: Capt. Anderson has been fishing all of his life, basically growing up with a rod and reel in his hands. As a kid, he spent countless hours fishing the Farmington River and any other body of water within biking distance of Unionville. As he grew older, he had a great friend who’s father introduced him to saltwater fishing. From there, his love for fishing only intensified. He fishes year round, in all conditions on salt water, fresh water and on the ice. He spends more days on the water than off of it.

Fishing Report:
Capt. Anderson's operation is based out of Connecticut, and he is renown for targetting trophy striped bass. The technique for the day was live-lining porgies.

First off, comments on his boat. OMG!!!! A 2008 Skeeter complete with a marine trolling motor and more livewells than new moons in a calender year!

The day began with catching bait. With sandworms and squid, we caught big porgies and into the livewell they went...

Capt. Blaine then put us on a hefty rock pile. With HUGE marks on the fish finder, we were soon into fish. We drifted right over the rocks and three-way rigged porgies started to go nutty! Soon enough, BAM! DOUBLED OVER AND HEAVY WEIGHT! Giant blues and bass! It took us a while to get used to circle hooks, but in time, we got it.

Throughout the trip, we got slammed a few more times, and a couple more bass were landed. The ones I dropped may have well been new personal bests, eh, who knows? Either way, it will keep me coming back.

The winds really picked up, but the marine trolling motor did the job to keep us on the proper drift trajectory. This probably distinguishes Capt. Anderson's boat from all others --> The boat can allow anglers to fish under conditions that other boats cannot!

Fishing with Anderson Guide Services was simply awesome! Capt. Anderson is a professional and his skills are simply amazing. An A+++ experience all the way!

I think I know where my life's best striper will come from - these Connecticut waters are indeed truly big fish waters...
