Fishing Overview: Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
The approach to catching Tuna varies depending on the time of year and size class of fish.
1. Generally, expect to use one or more of the following techniques on these trips: Vertical Jigging, Topwater Casting, and Trolling.
2. Typical tackle used:
Jigging: Spinning or Conventional reels with minimally 25lb drag at strike spooled with 65-80 lb braided line / 100-130lb fluorocarbon leader line.
5' -5'8" Length jigging rod with Heavy to XXH power. Vertical jig weight from 8 to 14oz up on the ocean current condition.
Casting: 7'- 8' spinning rod in XH to XXH power that capable handle 65-80lb braided line / 100-150lb leader. Reputable offshore spiinning reel that has minium 400yds of 80lb braided line capacityl from accurate, shimano, or daiwa... etc. Topwater lures ranging from wire through offshore stick bait, popper, swim bait, and soft plasitc in appropiate size and weight.
